MATH205 Mathematics and Society: A Visual Perspective 3CR

Mathematics and Society explores the dynamic interplay between mathematics, art, design, and societal contexts. This course goes beyond traditional mathematical applications, delving into the profound impact mathematics has on various facets of society.  From exploring statistical analyses of societal trends and demographics, analyzing geometric foundations of design, dissecting economic models and environmental considerations, to examining the mathematical underpinnings of social inequality and urban planning, this course explores the intricate web of mathematics woven into the fabric of our interconnected world.  The integration of art and design serves as a transformative medium, allowing students to visually convey mathematical concepts and societal challenges creatively. Through collaborative projects, students will not only master advanced mathematical concepts but also cultivate a deep awareness of how mathematics influences and reflects the broader social landscape. This course embodies our commitment to interdisciplinary education, encouraging students to explore mathematics as a dynamic force influencing the visual and social landscapes.
