LW403 Artist’s Writing 3CR The aim of this course is for artists or designers to develop a writing practice that taps into the vitality of their studio practice. Focusing on writerly craft and participating in critique workshops, students compose statements and other writing unique to their artistry and customizable across different purposes and audiences. Writing is explored as a tool for authentic, sustained inquiry into one’s creative practice and research writing as a way to define and contextualize one’s work in relation to other makers or movements. In-class writing offers an experiential application of class lessons and sharing this writing further affirms the collective. Students prepare other documents such as bios, proposals, applications, book reviews, or art reviews. [Formerly titled Writing an Artist’s Statement]
