GRAD662 Contemporary Art in Context 3cr

Students explore issues of theory, interpretation, and criticism in contemporary art, considering their own work in the context of a wide range of perspectives. Research, presentation, and class discussion provide an introduction to international movements and themes. Major touchstones of critical theory are introduced through the viewing and analysis of specific works. Through this course, students develop the skills for speaking fluently about their own work in the context of contemporary art, while building community across programs and disciplines. This required course is taken in the spring semester of the students’ first year.
