Students in the film/video program apply twenty-first century technologies to develop and refine their personal aesthetic vision. The film/video program provides students with a critical understanding of the history and philosophy behind existing genres. Students develop a solid foundation in the basics of time-based media due to the curriculum’s strong focus on production techniques. They then can acquire the skills and confidence to refine their own personal direction. Students take courses in 16 mm film, analog video, digital video, high-definition video, sound design, and non-linear editing. They develop a vocabulary with which to discuss their own productions and critique one another’s work. In several classes, students form crews to work on one another’s projects. By shifting roles, they work as a team and solve problems creatively as a group. Coursework culminates in an independent thesis project. Facilities include ample workspace and a wide array of film, video, and audio equipment.
