HART307 The Banjo As American Material Culture 3cr

Might an understanding of this musical instrument
expose the American psyche more fully than a
gallery of paintings or book of laws? The
Americanized African instrument remains a potent
icon today and we will explore its varieties of
mythic and material reincarnations,
contextualizing it in historical studies of
labor, race, class, gender, technology and
musicology.

Taken with Sculpture 3DS “The Banjo Project”
