HART300 Art of Ancient Iraq 3 cr. The arts of the ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian cultures of Mesopotamia (Iraq) from the eighth millennium BC through the fall of the Babylonian Empire in 539 BC. Emphasis is on the interpretation of art objects as evidence for such historical, social, and cultural developments as urbanism, social stratification, the institutionalization of religion, imperialism, and international commerce.
