LALW305 Russian Short Story 3 cr. Russian literature is a relatively new phenomenon. It burst on world stage suddenly and unexpectedly in the early nineteenth century and almost immediately gained tremendous world-wide influence. Everyone knows the names of Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, Chekhov and Pasternak, Nabokov and Solzhenitsyn. Great Russian literature is also uniquely connected to Russian philosophy and politics. Thus, reading and studying it will help students to better understand the trials and tribulations of the modern times.
